Fraser island is a place of exceptional beauty, with its long
uninterrupted white beaches flanked by strikingly coloured sand cliffs,
and stunning lakes, it is one of many places in Australia one must visit when being there. Moreover it is the largest sand island in the world and the only one where rainforest is found to grow on. No question that we went there to visit and see for ourselves.
We left the driving to someone else, which was, we realized as soon as we got there, a good decision. As soon as we left the ferry and climbed into the bus, the first cars were already stuck in the sand and believe me you wouldn't like to drive over there, no matter how talented you think you are when it comes to driving a car. After the 4th time of being stuck I guess it just stops being funny as you're wasting your precious time... time you could use to explore the rainforest, jump into the lakes or watch the dolphins and whales fooling around in the ocean.
for me the best thing about this trip were the lakes, whether it was the one completely surrounded by sand and forest, the one where you had an amazing view or the one surrounded by rocks and the ocean, they were always exceptionally beautiful and of course refreshing.
we had some great days on this island with once more lots of walking to be done, but by now we were used to that ;-) We took lots of pictures, had some interesting bus rides, were brave enough to fly over the island with a not so secure looking plane, had tons of fun and even saw a dingo strolling around (luckily we only saw him whilst driving past because those animals really do kinda scare me...not as much as spiders though)
If you ever were to visit Australia, do go to Fraser Island to take some mental pictures!
